LYDENBURG – Fashion trends from as far as the ’60s, ’70s and ’90s were recently showcased during the Gereformeerde Kerk’s spectacle show.

Various outfits were displayed, from vintage wedding gowns, the latest-fashion casual wear, traditional Voortrekker clothing and mother-of-the-bride dresses. This was the second event of its kind, the last one was held three years ago.

The fashion parade is an event meant to bring the congregation together and share a light meal while enjoying the show. According to Jo van Rooyen, a member of the church, it was a great event. “The models wore different fashion trends and all their outfits were beautiful.”

The wedding attires received more compliments. “One of the models wore my wedding gown which was designed for me in the ’60s.

I paid R10 per metre and I bought six metres. In those days R60 was a lot of money. A lady who took me under her wing made the dress for me for free and I got married a couple of months later.

“It gave me so much joy watching Paula le Roux walking on stage wearing my dress.” Almost every vintage outfit had a story behind it. ”

“Sulet Venter wore her late grandmother’s dress, my granddaughter Deanu van Rooyen wore her mother’s and my daughter-in-law wore the dress from the ’90s. Carli le Roux wore her mother’s outfit and all of them looked so beautiful.”

Models of all ages took part and some women were dressed up as males.
