Mamba calls for a peaceful resignation

Councillor for Ward 45 of the City of Mbombela Local Municipality, Mandla Mamba, resigned.

Councillor for Ward 45 of the City of Mbombela Local Municipality, Mandla Mamba, resigned last Wednesday.

This was announced during a meeting in Emjindini. According to ANC provincial spokesman, Sasekani Manzini, the party confirmed his resignation.

During the meeting, the members of the public did not want to accept his resignation and wanted to protest.

According to a community member, Mamba had to convince them otherwise.”My reason for resigning is because the ANC has reserved me. I will be utilised for greater responsibilities within the organisation. I want the community to understand that I do not want them to be violent or to react. I do not want violence. I do not want to carry the guilt if anything were to happen to them, because I care.

“My message to the community is that they must know that I love them and I am always with them. They must never think that I will leave them. I have much greater love for them,” he said.

Last year Mamba was arrested alongside Messrs Sihle Nkambule, Sabelo Mlotshwa, Themba Mwali and Gift Mnisi. They were charged with robbery and malicious damage to property in Emjindini.

They were released on bail on September 9. Mamba and Mnisi were released on R10 000 bail each, and Mlotshwa, Nkambule and Mnisi on R500 each.

He was rearrested and charged with violation of bail conditions on October 26.He was allegedly spotted among the community members who brought Fairview Mine to a standstill last year.
