The Barberton Photography Club recently held its April meeting at the offices of Bosua & Cornelissen at 14 Pilgrim Street.
They meet on the second Wednesday of each month. The club was founded five years ago and it consists of a group of local photographers who are passionate about this artform.
They share ideas, techniques, and comment on one another’s photos, while working on improving their abilities. There are five categories: mono nature, colour nature, mono open, colour open, and set subject (which changes each month).

Each member submits between one to 10 images per month. For April members submitted 52 photos for judging. “The judging of the photos was done by the members as a training process for the upcoming course.
“Five of the members will be going on an advanced course for judging and appreciation of images in May,” said Herman Bosua, a member of the club.
The theme for this month was Anything With a Tyre. The winning image for the set subject was “Destination” by Stephen Allen.
The other winning images were:
• Mono – Nature: “Oink” by Herman Bosua
• Mono – Open: “Concert Time” by Lynette Spencer
• Colour – Nature: “Bug-a-Lugs” by Michelle Evans
• Colour – Open: “In the Light” by Stephen Allen.
As part of learning and improving their skills, they discuss the judge’s comments.
During every meeting, Bosua presents a manipulated image.
“The Photoshop procedure used this month was Blinds. The educational part of the evening was used to explain the difference between Photoshop and Lightroom. We did practical examples,” Bosua.

“We are planning to go on two trips; one to a croc breeding farm 20 kilometres outside of town and a car museum in White River.
“The dates will be in June and July. If any non-members want to go with us, they are welcome. They must contact me as soon as possible. We have limited space.
“To Lynette Spencer, we appreciate your gesture of spoiling us with hot cross buns with butter.”
The next meeting will be held on May 10. The event will start at 18:00 at the offices of Bosua & Cornelissen at 14 Pilgrim Street.
