CIT Heist

A Fidelity driver was shot at and his vehicle blown up in Tuesday's CIT heist on the N4 between Matsulu and Kanyamazane.

The N4 came to a standstill after a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist between Matsulu and KaNyamazane on Tuesday afternoon.

An estimated 10 suspects opened fire on a Fidelity Security armoured bakkie which was travelling to Mbomela. The suspects were in four vehicles, a black Mercedes-Benz, two BMWs, one grey and one black, and a white bakkie.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesman, Brig Leonard Hlati, the suspects fired on the bakkie until it came to a standstill.

“They then forced the guards out of the vehicle and blew it open with explosives,” he said. He went on to say that the driver was assaulted, but not seriously injured. “The driver was taken to hospital for observation,” said Hlati. The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
