Community opens its heart to Buddies and elderly

The Care Buddies from Nelspruit and White River recently collected toiletries at Crossing Centre, Mbombela to distribute among the elderly who live in old-age homes and frail care centres.

Despite difficult times, they received more than 6 000 items over four weekends.

Leaders from different groups gathered afterwards at Yvonne McHeath’s home to sort the items for distribution in White River and Mbombela.

Each elderly person in financial need received about 10 items.

The Buddies will also visit Waterval Boven early in September.

“Both the community’s hearts and purses were wide open for the collection this year, resulting in nearly 2 000 more items collected than last year,” said a thankful McHeath.
