UPDATE: Water shortages persist as reservoirs are filled up
Large parts of the city has been without water since Saturday.

MBOMBELA – Residents continued to report no water in their homes on Monday morning.
Sembcorp Silulumanzi spokesman, Richmond Jele, said this was due to low reservoir levels.
“It may take up to eight hours to fill up a reservoir.”

MBOMBELA – Sembcorp Silulumanzi has confirmed that the damaged canal has been repaired.
“As of 13:45 we have been pumping water into the reservoirs at 100 per cent capacity,” said spokesman, Richmond Jele.
He said water supply was expected to stabilise within hours.
Some areas’ water supply has reportedly returned but the pressure remained low.
“Once the reservoirs reach an acceptable level, water will start flowing,” Jele said.

MBOMBELA – Sembcorp Silulumanzi confirmed on Sunday morning that they were still working on repairing the canal break announced on Friday.
Spokesman, Richmond Jele, told Lowvelder that they hoped to have it fixed by this afternoon.
Large parts of the city were left without water on Saturday, and werce to continued to have dry taps until at least Sunday evening.
According to Jele the water supply may take until Monday morning to be restored to normal.
He said that they were diverting some water from the Croc Valley canal, but the volumes were low.
Water supply to particularly White River, Stonehenge, West Acres and Sonheuwel areas will be seriously constrained until at least Monday, SS said in a statement.
Jele added that all areas serviced by the soccer ball reservoir would not have water for the largest part of Sunday.
He couldn’t say how today’s stage 2 load shedding would further hamper operations as it did on Saturday.

Jele asked that all residents used water “very sparingly” in the meantime.

MBOMBELA – Sembcorp Silulumanzi reported a very serious break in the canal feeding Mbombela’s old and new waterworks on Friday.
According to spokesman Richmond Jele, no water is entering the plant.

A contractor was to start repairs on Friday afternoon.

“We will be taking water from the Croc Valley canal, but it would be only half of our normal withdrawal.”
Jele said the repairs could take until Monday or Tuesday to complete.
Residents are therefore urged to use water sparingly to avoid a shortage.
