DA to represent Lydenburg’s Ward 12 after recent by-election
The DA won the election with 643 votes.

LYDENBURG – Spiros Couvaras, from the Democratic Alliance (DA), won the municipal by-election in Ward 12 and will be the new representative councillor for this party in the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM).
The by-election was held on Wednesday, giving residents in this ward the opportunity to cast their votes for the candidate best suited to represent them in council. The following candidates were elected by different opposition parties.
• DA: Spiros Couvaras
• FF+: Gerda Venter
• ANC: Gareth Orin Tomur
• EFF: Christopher Mmadi.
The DA won the election with 643 votes. The results showed a remarkable increaseo f votes for the FF+. This party obtained4 34 votes (in comparison with the previous by-election in 2016 when only 189 votes were counted).
Election results are as follows
• DA – 48.49 per cent – 643 votes (2016 – 79.06 per cent)
• VF+ – 32.73 percent – 434 votes (2016 – 8.35 per cent)
• ANC – 18.10 per cent – 240 votes (2016 – 10.37 per cent)
• EFF – 0.68 per cent – 9 votes (2016 –
1.86 per cent)
