Reports of first coronavirus case in Lydenburg dismissed as fake

On Monday, Mandla Zwane, director for communicable diseases in the Mpumalanga Department of Health, said, “If the post or statement is not from the Department of Health, it must be regarded as fake news.

We have not announced that there is a first case of coronavirus in Lydenburg/Mashishing.”

Zwane said the public needs to know that if the news is true, the Department of Health will announce it.

“This is not the first time that fake news is shared on social media on issues relating to coronavirus,” he explained.
