Safety of health workers ensured

To ensure the safety of front-line health workers, the MEC of the Department of Health in Mpumalanga, Sasekani Manzini, visited the Matsulu Emergency Medical Services Station situated 41 kilometres east of Mbombela.

She checked the availability of personal protective equipment for the staff and provided necessary support to further improve the quality of services provided by the dedicated, skilled, health workers during these trying times of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

The MEC was briefed about the daily operation of the station, which is to provide a swift emergency response to patients in need of medical attention by providing quality pre-hospital treatment and to transport patients to an appropriate facility for further treatment.

MEC Manzini appreciated all front-line workers across the province, in both the public and private sector, and applauded their commitment and dedication in the provision of health care services to the people. She further went on to encourage all health workers to continue to be resilient in the fight against Covid-19 and serve the people with respect and dignity.

Manzini also met with chief executive officers (CEO) and hospital boards chairpersons, both from public and private health facilities in the province. She used the opportunity to welcome and congratulate all the newly appointed hospital board members.
The meeting discussed hospital governance, and roles and responsibilities of hospital boards.

MEC Manzini cautioned the CEOs and board chairpersons against power struggles as they execute their various roles. She called for an integrated approach in management of hospitals, especially now that the department is introducing a clinic-based model.

Manzini’s long-term vision is to integrate hospitals boards to forge a strong working relationship and a flow of communication between them and clinic committees.
