Kaapsehoop Road reopened following closure by employees

The closure was peaceful and the road was opened by 08:00 after it had been closed off. Police were on the scene.

The newly upgraded Kaapsehoop Road, near the Communio Church, that was closed off by disgruntled employees earlier this morning has now been opened.

The road closure was initiated by subcontracted employees who were hired by the main contractor, Tshau Civils, to complete the roadworks on that section of motorway.

Employees on the scene alleged that the subcontractors had not yet been paid by Tshau Civils which was employed by the City of Mbombela Local Municipality.

The Tshau Civils’ director Freddy Manenzhe said, however, they were in the process of making payments to the subcontractors and that they anticipated the roadworks would be complete by next week.

The subcontractors had not responded to media queries at the time this article was published. Read the next edition of Lowvelder for the full story.
