Jesse Clegg wows White River with intimate performance

The South African singer gave an intimate performance for music lovers, treating his audience to both his older and newer hits.

Fans were first treated to a delicious set menu by Yoons Eatery before settling in to listen to Clegg’s ballads.

He soon had everyone tapping their feet, nodding their heads and clapping along to his music, and even Yoons staff could be seen bopping along between serving patrons.

After performing a few songs, Clegg thanked audience members for their support, saying it was the most intimate show he had performed.

“I love it. I haven’t performed in White River for four years,” said Clegg.

He also spoke fondly of his father during the set, the legendary Johnny Clegg, who died of cancer in 2019 at the age of 66.

Clegg said he came from a very musical family, and although his father was a famous musician, he wanted to carve his own path in the music industry.

“I had never done any music with my dad, but in 2016/17 when he got sick, I realised I just really wanted to make music with him.”

Clegg said he was so grateful to have been able to perform with his father during his farewell world tour, which saw them sing at 50 shows across three continents.

“Always say what you feel and remember the forces that hold us together, like our families.”

Clegg encouraged his audience to remember that human connection is an important part of life, before performing a song he had written with his father, “I’ve been looking”.

Yoons Eatery’s owner Unice-Ann Badenhorst said it was a stunning show, and although it was Clegg’s first time there, they hoped that he would be back to perform in the summer months.
