Questions unanswered about Mr Big

No suspects have been identified nor have arrests been made regarding the murder of Petros Sidney Mabuza, known as Mr Big, by the police. There are no updates on the crime since the shooting occurred on June 17.

Mabuza had been shot while sitting in his car in Hazyview on June 17. He was rushed to Kiaat Private Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Since the shooting, the police have launched a manhunt to find the culprits and have been on high alert for any further activities.

The Lowveld’s notorious and alleged rhino-poaching kingpin was laid to rest surrounded by his family and hundreds of supporters from all over on Sunday June 27. The police were at the funeral in numbers too, prepared for the worst. Blockades were structured by the SAPS and it was believed the funeral was peaceful due to the massive police presence.

Taxis and cars were branded “R.I.P Mshengu” as they drove to the funeral through Hazyview to Marite. The entire event was live-streamed on YouTube for those who could not attend the funeral. This live-stream captured the true emotions and words that were spoken of Mshengu.

People shared stories of how he had paid school and university fees for many pupils and students in the area. Speakers also claimed that he had had love of motorcycles and cars.

A KaBokweni-born poet, Dominic the Poet, sang the Mabuza clan praises when Mabuza’s casket alighted from the helicopter and was lowered into his final resting place. He started a loan shark business in 1994 and had been in the taxi service since 1998.
