Police retrieve body of drowned woman at Shiyalongubo Dam

The body of a Mozambican national was recovered from the water this afternoon.

The body of a woman (24) who drowned in Shiyalongubo Dam earlier today (October 21) was successfully retrieved by police divers.

According to Capt Pottie Potgieter, the woman had been at the dam with two friends, a man and a woman, when she drowned.

“She was walking along its banks, which are very slippery. She allegedly slipped and fell into the water,” Potgieter said.

According to him, the woman could not swim and unfortunately drowned. The divers retrieved her body at about 14:45 at a depth of about five metres.

Potgieter said the woman was a Mozambican national. Her name is known to Lowvelder, but it is being withheld to allow the authorities to inform her next of kin of the incident.
