Lightning strike causes fire at Lower Sabie filling station

Kruger National Park guests have been advised to use alternative fuel stations to fill up their vehicles.

A lightning strike caused the Lower Sabie filling station in the Kruger National Park (KNP) to catch alight on the evening of November 13. The filling station is closed.

The KNP spokesperson, Isaac Phaahla, said park guests need to plan to get their fuel either from Skukuza or Crocodile Bridge.

Phaala said the fire has been extinguished and the KNP fire engine and team under the leadership of Piet van Wyk were all on scene.

“The Working On Fire team from Malalane were also dispatched as a safety precaution. They have the capabilities to deal with these types of fires.”

He said the site is being monitored as a precaution.
