Uplands congratulates the class of 2021!

It gives us great pleasure to congratulate the class of 2021 on receiving their national senior certificates. Once again, Uplands College achieved a 100% pass rate, with 95% of our candidates meeting the requirements for bachelor’s degree studies.

We are particularly proud of our pupils, with a third of the grade attaining three or more distinctions, as well as 80% of the symbols achieved by all candidates being above 60% (C symbol).

Our top candidate, Luke Smythe, achieved eight distinctions and was listed on the IEB’s commendable achievers’ list for having achieved within the top 5% in five subjects and achieved a rating level of 7 in life orientation.

No fewer than four pupils – Hannah Guthrie, Jordan Mitchell, Metja Mosehla and Amani Omar – each achieved a full house of distinctions. Beulah Alberts and Carla Neto achieved six distinctions, while Elouné Prinsloo and Kiara Wales each attained five.

The following pupils all achieved four distinctions: Camilla Alexander, Georgia Chirgwin, Alexis Geddes, Thabang Malaza, Beon Pienaar, Wandile Sibiya and Kobus van der Westhuyzen. An additional 12% of the grade achieved three distinctions. Congratulations to Affsá Aziz, Jessica Buchanan, Grace Garratt, Jaden Hansen-White, Sarah Hume, Nhlamulo Mokazi, Riana Poulsom, Ivlise Sacur, Eduardo Semba and Mandisa Singwane for achieving this feat.

The following pupils have been recognised as being in the top 1% in subjects listed by the IEB:

• Luke Smythe – life sciences, physical science and life orientation
• Carla Neto – history and life orientation
• Elouné Prinsloo – Afrikaans
• Beon Pienaar – Afrikaans
• Kiara Wales – English
• Amani Omar – English
• Zia Hoppè – life orientation
• Alexis Geddes – life orientation.

Considering the disruption our pupils have experienced due to the Covid-19 pandemic over the past two years, their resilience and determination to maintain an academic focus is admirable. While we have highlighted our top academic achievers, we take pride in acknowledging all 83 of our matrics for their results. A huge amount of work goes into ensuring that all pupils achieve their full potential and we celebrate their achievements equally.

We are very excited to see how all our matriculants apply what they have learned at Uplands College to ensure that they are happy, successful and contributing members of society.

We salute the class of 2021 and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

Deputy Head: Academics
