A day of dancing and fun with Care Buddies

The residents of Oranjezicht Retirement Village spent their Saturday morning dancing with the new grade eights of Hoërskool Nelspruit (NHS) as part of an outreach organised by the Nelspruit Care Buddies.

About 20 smiling pupils entered the communal area with parcels of treats packed especially for each resident.

Some residents were entertained in the communal room, while others remained in their homes and the pupils went to visit each there.

Tea, coffee and treats were served before the music started playing. The first song was “The Macarena”, and some of the pupils and a few of the residents immediately began dancing around a large table in the communal area.

They all had fun, and some special bonds were formed between the children and the residents. A few of the pupils even called some of the residents their “new grandmother/grandfather”.

The Nelspruit Care Buddies said they were very happy with how the outreach had turned out, and said it was clear that everyone enjoyed themselves.
