Limpopo mayor to represent province at Salga

Mayor Minah Bahula has been elected to serve on the national executive committee of the South African Local Government Association (Salga).

Bahula, the executive mayor of the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM), situated in Jane Furse and Sekhukhune in Limpopo, was elected on Friday February 4 in Polokwane diring Salga’s national conference.

The new members of the national Salga’s committee are expected to advance the development of local government that will equally translate into service delivery.

The conference had also made a reflection on how best leaders can adequately reflect on issues regarding local government.

The theme of the conference was to create financially sustainable municipalities.

A programme of action was adopted to improve efficiency, growth and performance in local communities. Bahula is known for her charity endeavours as she donated a house with the help of local businesses to the Mmokela family on Heritage Day last year.

The Mmokela home was dilapidated and had damaged and cracked walls. The mayor said at the time MLM was surrounded by poor families, and as a government they needed to offer a helping hand and alleviate poverty.
