Penreach hosts National Science Week

Pupils from across the Lowveld were able to enjoy interactive exhibits.

Pupils from across the Ehlanzeni district recently made their way to Penreach to celebrate National Science Week 2022.

Penreach, a non-government organisation and social impact organisation that works towards educational excellence in disadvantaged rural communities, has been taking part in National Science Week (NSW) for over 10 years and will continue to do so for many years to come. “NSW is such an exciting event on our calendar. It demystifies many myths around the subject and instead stimulates interest and curiosity,” said Given Mashabane, manager of the Penreach Shalamuka Steam Centre (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics).

According to Mashabane, events such as these are crucial, not only to raise Steam awareness, but also to illustrate the role science plays in tackling real life problems and challenges in order to create and sustain a prosperous society. “South Africa is home to many discoveries and innovations that influenced the world. The scientist is right here, among us. Let’s celebrate our youth and create opportunities for them to prosper. The youth are after all the hope of the future,” said Mashabane.
