A positive first week of matric final exams in Mpumalanga

The marking of exams will start on December 9 at 19 centres throughout the province.

The first three days of the matric exam finished without any reported hiccups in the region this week.
“We are encouraged by the progress to date. The teachers have done everything humanly possible to prepare the learners.

“The ball is now in the candidates’ court to do their best. We hope they will appreciate the significance of this examination and work hard to make their parents and the community of Mpumalanga proud. We extend our best wishes to the Class of 2022,” the MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, said.

All registered, full-time Grade 12 learners wrote English home, first or second additional language paper 1 on Monday. The following two days were set out for economics paper 1 and Afrikaans home, first and second additional language paper 1.

Majuba said his department has managed an incident-free examination process since 2010, and intends to uphold that positive trajectory as well as improve the overall outcomes of this examination.

“71 582 learners have registered to write in 566 centres throughout the province. This number is the highest in the history of writing such an examination in the province,” he explained.

Ntombikayise Nkuna, a matric pupil, said after she had seen her trial exams’ results, she immediately started preparing for the finals. Because her results were so poor, she decided to take steps to improve them.

“I started attending extra classes in the morning and afternoon, and on Saturday and Sunday. I am glad that attending these extra classes has helped me improve. Attending the Grade 12 camp has helped me and I recommend it, because it helps you to focus only on studying.”

Lindokuhle Nkwane said she had to prepare for the exam during the difficult circumstances of load-shedding, but she had not allowed this to disturb her. “It is difficult to study with the electricity that keeps going on and off, but I make sure I utilise all the chances I get to study, and am confident that I will make it,” she said.

The NSC examinations will progress until December 7. The handing over of a bursary from the department and a brand-new car to the province’s top learner will be held on January 20, when the results are to be announced.
