Local companies sponsor soccer tournament in Steelpoort

The participating teams were Ghana FC, Mighty Birds, Diarora and Mighty Stars football clubs.

Developing local soccer players and seeing them play in professional ranks, are some of the reasons why local companies invest in sports. PCM Mining and Plato Hydraulics recently sponsored a soccer tournament in Steelpoort.
Four teams participated in the soccer spectacle, with the winners receiving an avalanche of prizes. The teams were Ghana FC, Mighty Birds, Diarora and Mighty Stars football clubs.

Speaking to Steelburger/Lydenburg News, Petrus Khoza of Plato Hydraulics and also the organiser, said they aimed to take the youth off the streets.

“We sponsored the tournament with cash prizes of R7 000, and we also handed goal nets, medals and soccer balls to the participants.

The final match was between Diarora and Ghana FC.

“The tournament was a success as we witnessed some of the best talents in Tubatse.”

The top four matches were clinched by Diarora. They defeated Ghana FC 4-3 in penalties, although the teams were tied 2-2 after 90 minutes of play.
