Three people were injured when a roof collapsed due to a storm.

A violent storm destroyed building and business structures, and injured three people, around Hazyview this afternoon, November 18.

Most of the roads were closed due to fallen trees and debris. Some motorists were forced to use alternative routes, while others were forced to clear the roads to reach their destinations.

Meanwhile, three people were injured when their roof collapsed. Two of them were rushed to hospital, while the third only sustained minor injuries and chose not to go.

Nicollet Valetin, one of the owners of Nabana Lodge, said, “We are shocked at the damage caused by the storm to the lodge, and farm and private houses. Thank goodness no one got hurt and that everyone is safe.

“Thank you to the community of Kiepersol and Hazyview, the farmers, our friends and our loyal Nabana family for all the help and support. We will get through this. We are thinking of everyone who was affected.”

Jacques Benade, of the provincial disaster management centre, said, “Currently, all we know is that a wind storm damaged infrastructure. It was blown all over the place and landed on the R40. Building roofs were left exposed.

“Mbombela Fire Services was dispatched and cleared the debris. No known accidents or injuries have been reported.

“Disaster management teams are on the ground assessing the damage and losses. A full report will be made available shortly.”
