No arrests yet for Lowveld farmer’s September murder
The police are still investigating the case in which a macadamia farmer, Etienne du Toit, was murdered on his farm in September. No arrests have been made as yet.
Etienne du Toit, remembered as an amazing man, a wonderful father and a first-class macadamia farmer, was murdered on his Sterkspruit farm on September 29.
There have been no arrests following his death, said a provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli. The police are still investigating the matter.
Du Toit’s memorial service was held in the NG Kerk Alkaar on October 10, after which his family and loved ones came together at Alkmaar Farmstay to celebrate his life.
According to a police statement, at the time of his murder, he was said to have gone to the farm to switch off some water pumps.

“It is suspected it was during this time that he was attacked by his assailant(s). The circumstances surrounding this murder incident are still under investigation, however, a preliminary investigation indicates that the victim sustained some head injuries.”
Mdhluli said an iron rod was also found next to his body. The police cannot rule out the possibility that the rod could have been used as a weapon by Du Toit’s killer(s). His cellphone had not been stolen. Mdhluli said the motive for the killing was unknown.
