Mpumalanga health MEC welcomes New Year’s babies

MEC Sasekani Manzini spent time with mothers and their newborns.

The Mpumalanga MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, visited Mapulaneng Hospital in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality today, January 1, to celebrate New’s Year babies.

During the visit she interacted with the mothers and they received baby essentials from her.

There were 42 babies born across the province, 24 boys and 18 girls. According to the department, the figures are expected to change during the course of the day.

Manzini urged all mothers with newborn babies to take them to primary healthcare facilities to undergo all the necessary initial examinations within the first 24 hours of birth.

“The first 24 hours are critical in determining the newborn’s general well-being and identifying any red flags that may warrant further evaluation and treatment.”
