Sekhukhune matriculants assisted with NSFAS

The roadshow for last year’s matriculants started at Matshumane Secondary School on January 23.

To make further education more accessible, the Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), through its Special Programmes Unit, took the 2023 National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) applications to several local schools.

The roadshow for last year’s matriculants started at Matshumane Secondary School on January 23.

The team  visited other schools in Sekhukhune from  January 23 until January 31. The objective of this programme
is to ensure every learner in the district is able to receive funding.

The executive mayor of SDM, Maleke Mokganyetji, said not everyone has access to the internet, and this is a way to ensure no learner is refused furthering their studies because they lack connectivity.

“The goal of this roadshow is slowly but surely being reached, and the applicants are happy to know they are eligible for funding.
“The Grade 12s of 2022 worked hard, with some obtaining three to five distinctions, so funding to further their studies is a dream come true for most of them,” said SDM’s spokesperson, Khomotso Ndlovu.

Basetsana Makola, one of many applicants, said, “I am so happy this programme was initiated, because I got help without having to spend money at the internet cafe. The lady who helped me was so friendly, which made it easier for me to comprehend the whole application process.”
