The Mpumalanga Hawks recovered dangerous weapons during an investigation conducted following the series of robberies that took place around Hazyview.

According to the provincial Hawks spokesperson, Captian Dineo Sekgotodi, four AK-47 rifles, 15 AK-47 magazines, 345 rounds of ammunition, 28 Scino 100 blasting cartridges, an unpacked blasting cartridge, three roles of Cortex, seven improvised explosive devices (suspected to be for use in a CIT robbery), one battery and six bulletproof vests were seized.

“We received information on Friday August 4 at about 10:00, about a safe house in Phola, Masoyi, with regards to firearms and ammunition hidden in this house. A multidisciplinary team consisting of Nelspruit Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Middelburg Serious Organised Crime, Crime Intelligence, the National Intervention Unit, the Nelspruit Bomb Disposal Unit, and the Nelspruit Police went to the house. The house was searched, but no one was found. Further investigation led to the recovery of the weapons exhibits that were hidden in the ceiling of the house,” she said.

Sekgotodi added that no one has been arrested as of yet, and the investigation continues.

The provincial Hawks’ head, Major General Nico Gerber, affirmed the Hawks’ commitment to root out serious crimes by encouraging the community to keep on providing information as they can see that the Hawks are serious about following it.
