SANParks senior manager killed by hippo in Kruger National Park

SANParks said the circumstances surrounding the attack are being investigated.

A South African National Parks (SANParks) senior manager in the environmental crime investigation unit based in Pretoria, Kobus de Wet, has died after being attacked by a hippo.

The SANParks spokesperson, Isaac Phaahla, said the incident took place on Saturday August 12, during the day.

He said De Wet was camping with his wife in the Kruger National Park.

“Details are sketchy at this stage and circumstances around the incident are under investigation. SANParks’ executive management sends its sincere condolences to his immediate family, friends and the SANParks family. The memorial and funeral arrangements are being planned,” Phaahla said.
