Lappies Labuschagne of Hi-Tech has warned dog owners to look out for signs of poisoning in their animals.

“The signs include vomiting, tremors (shivering), and above normal salivation. Diarrhoea, small pupils, and paralysis are also signs of poisoning. Should a dog display these symptoms, get them to a vet as soon as possible.”

He also warned owners to never touch any suspicious food product and avoid touching the pet if it is suspected to be poisoned.

“Many of these poisons can be absorbed by the skin. Wrap the pet in a blanket to avoid bodily contact and remove any suspicious products from the yard with rubber gloves or plastic. Always make sure you have checked the yard for suspicious food items before taking an animal to the vet. Criminals may use meat products to put poison in. he animals then ingest it easily,” Labuschagne said.
