Nelspruit SPCA suffers crime spree
The Nelspruit SPCA is appealing to every follower on its Facebook page to donate R20, which will provide the money needed to secure the premises and protect it from further break-ins.

The Nelspruit SPCA has recently suffered a spate of burglaries.
Then, on Sunday September 24, its vehicle was stolen.
According to Nelspruit SPCA , the bakkie, which is used in the Barberton area, was stolen on Sunday at 03:00. It was recovered by the Barberton police where it had been crashed off a bridge.
Three suspects were arrested.
It is expected that repairs to the bakkie will be extremely expensive. Copper pipes on the premises have been stolen numerous times, leaving the SPCA without water to clean out the kennels.

Even the mesh wire around the kennels and catteries have been cut several times, placing the animals at risk.
“Our vehicle battery was stolen three times, despite being encased in a special steel box we had made. Our office burglar bars have been cut and our only computer stolen. Our alarm cables were cut last week. We had huge expenses fixing this, funds we could have used for animals in need.

We want to put up an electric fence around our building, upgrade our existing alarm system and install additional security lights with steel boxes around them to secure them. We also need a new battery for our car, a vital vehicle used for our outreach programmes,” she said.
The SPCA has requested every follower on its Facebook page to donate R20, which will provide it with the R400 000 needed to secure the premises. Any additional amounts will be welcome.
“Please assist us. It is not for us, but to keep our animals and assets safe,” concluded Nortjé.
