Rapist receive hefty sentence
The SAPS has withheld the perpetrator's identity to protect the victim's privacy.
The Lydenburg Regional Court sentenced a 39-year-old man convicted of raping his friend’s wife, to 10 years’ direct imprisonment last Monday, 28 October.
The court heard that the incident took place in May 2022. A group of four friends, including the 44-year-old victim, had gathered for drinks following a funeral in Lydenburg.

The victim, feeling tired, decided to leave early, and her friends drove her home before returning to their gathering. Her husband locked the house after dropping her off.
However, according to a court testimony, the perpetrator later returned alone to the house, having obtained a set of keys, and entered the room where the woman was asleep, and assaulted her.
The matter was reported to the police, and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit was assigned to investigate, which led to the arrest.
The perpetrator appeared in court multiple times before his eventual conviction.
