EMANZANA – Police have confirmed that four European tourists were attacked in two separate attempted hijacking incidents near eManzana (formerly Badplaas) and the Oshoek Border Post earlier today, September 10.
This despite South Africa celebrating Tourism Month during September.

The first attempted hijacking, in which two Dutch tourists (a man and a woman) were targeted, took place just after 11:00.
They were robbed of their belongings and the man was shot in the arm. He was stabilised at a nearby clinic before being transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

The second incident took place after 12:00 near the Oshoek Border Post during which a German couple’s car was damaged as hijackers tried to force it off the road. The couple managed to evade their attackers and drove to a nearby filling station where they waited for the police.

Mpumalaga SAPS spokesperson, Captain Magonseni Nkosi, said in both incidents the suspects drove blue car. Shaken up from the experience, the tourists were not able to immediately confirm the number of suspects or the make and model of the vehicle(s) that were used.
