Sappi announces new CEO

Mr Steve Binnie is to take over as Sappi's new chief executive officer in July.

NELSPRUIT – Sappi announced last week that Mr Steve Binnie (46) will take over as its new chief executive officer (CEO) in July. The news follows the recent announcement that the current CEO, Mr Ralph Boëttger, will step down from the position at the end of June due to his health.

A chartered accountant with an MBA from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, Binnie is currently the company’s chief financial officer (CFO). He joined the company in 2012.

The chairman of the board of directors, Dr Danie Cronjé, congratulated Binnie on his appointment. “The board believes he has all the necessary skills and attributes to take the company forward and to deliver strong growth into the future.”

Prior to his appointment at Sappi, Binnie was the CFO of Edcon since 2002, before which he was group financial manager at Investec. He was also a financial manager at Transunion ITC and financial director at New Zealand Milk Products SA. He completed his articles at KPMG.

The announcement of his successor as CFO at the company is expected to be made before the end of June.
