Raids in Sabie area pay off

Numerous arrests were made in Sabie when security companies conducted a raid last week.

SABIE – Petty crime was dealt a serious blow when Phoenix Flying Squad, KLF and Phoenix York Timbers conducted several raids in villages in the area. Since the number of serious crimes had been declining, they decided to focus on curbing minor ones.

About 40 members and six vehicles worked in teams to conduct them. They made 37 arrests during the past week, with charges ranging from possession of dagga, alcohol to illegal weapons. Unlawful immigrants were also nabbed. Confiscated goods included alcohol, packaged dagga, a dagga plant, mining equipment used in illicit mining as well as bags of muti.

Phoenix Flying Squad is geared towards curbing crime in the areas it covers and tries to keep the crime statistics as low as possible. It hopes that these busts and its continued presence will serve to dissuade people from committing major crimes.
