Four men aged 25 to 42 were apprehended by Nelspruit police on Thursday for possession of stolen goods.
Their arrest came as a result of the police’s swift action after receiving information about stolen items that had been kept in a house in Le Roux Street, Sonpark.
Police went there and recovered items suspected to have been stolen, including four plasma television sets, a laptop, five bicycles, a portable DVD player, cellphones and other items estimated to the value of R50 000. As a result of the recovery, the four men, including a Senegalese and a Ghanaian, were arrested. A blue Volkswagen Golf, suspected of having been used to transport the items, was also confiscated.
Police discovered that items, including one plasma television and a laptop had been stolen during a burglary in Belladonna Street, which was reported in the early hours of Thursday.
The suspects will also be investigated with regard to this incident and possibly other similar offences around the city.
They appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court yesterday for a formal bail application.
At the time of going to press, the outcome was not yet known.
According to police spokesman
Sgt Gerald Sedibe, they are very proud to have made this arrest, as it could be linked to many similar crimes in the area.
He also congratulated his fellow officers on their swift reaction.
