HOEDSPRUIT – A little zebra foal had a close encounter as she was chased through a fence at Raptor’s View Wildlife Sanctuary by a group of cheetah on Friday.
Luckily the team at Hoedspruit Endagered Species Centre came to its rescue just in time. According to Dr Peter Stewart Rogers, it ran up and down the fence for hours, trying to get back to its mother who was calling continuously on the other side, but to no avail.
“The gate between the two properties was open but the foal just ran past every time. It was starting to weaken and dehydrate in the heat and that is was when the manager Byron Wright decided to dart it. My assistant, Janelle Goodrich, put it on a drip and it wasn’t long before the little mare was reunited with her anxious mother,” he said.
Rogers said she was doing well and was up and running in no time.
