
MBOMBELA – Motorists may soon have to adapt to new regulations on the roads as the Minister of Transport gazetted new proposed speed limits, amongst others.
These regulations include:
- Driving 40 km/h, applied to every public road, or section thereof, situated within an urban area.
- driving 80 km/h on every public road, or section thereof, other than a freeway, outside an urban area.
- Drving 120 km/h on freeways – provided that a speed limit of 100 kilometres per hour applies in cases where a freeway passes through a residential area.
The draft regulations furthermore suggested that:
- Drivers are to be re-evaluated when renewing licences
- Workers being transported on the back of a bakkie may not exceed five
- School children not to be transported on the back of a bakkie
- Goods vehicles above 9 000kg GVM to be banned from public roads during peak travelling hours
