The pedestrian who was injured while attempting to cross the R40 in Riverside over the weekend remains unidentified.
Spokesman for the Department of Health, Mr Dumisani Malamule said on Tuesday that the man was in a critical condition. He was still unconscious in the intensive care unit of Rob Ferreira Hospital and they would have to wait until he woke up before they could identify him.
The police said they were investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving.
The incident on Saturday, which saw the patient being dragged under a taxi after it hit him, is the third one in two months on this road.

A pedestrian believed to be in his late forties is in a critical condition after he was dragged for several meters under a taxi Saturday afternoon on the R40 near Riverside Mall.
“Shortly before 14:00 paramedics arrived on the scene where they found the man with multiple injuries and a taxi with a broken windscreen,” said Mr Werner Kok, spokesman for ER24 in a press release. Bystanders explained to paramedics that the pedestrian was trying to cross the road when the taxi collided with him.
Paramedics had to initiate life-saving procedures in order to stabilise him. He was later transported in a critical condition to Rob Ferreira Hospital.
No one was injured in the taxi. SAPS attended the scene and are investigating the incident.
