Mbombela – The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General (Adv) Mark Magadlela is pleased with the operations initiated by women in the Province.
They intertwined their operation with the already up and running Operation Fiela and have made tremendous strides in the fight against crime.
The women, who named themselves as “Basadi ba Fiela” (women are sweeping), have shown guts and determination in their efforts to showcase safety. The Tonga Cluster alone as from the 19th to 21st of August 2015, proved to be successful and has scooped fairly good successes. The women in blue on the period mentioned together with the main Operation Fiela, managed to recover two stolen trucks valued at R 2.6 million. These trucks, one being an Interlink, were recovered during the Border Line Operation linked to Operation Fiela. One suspect was arrested so far and investigations regarding these trucks are ongoing.
Further suspects arrested includes two men found in possession of counterfeit goods, nine for possession of dagga, six undocumented persons, four for rape, one suspect was nabbed for assault and one for malicious damage to property.
Apart from the two trucks confiscated, the women together with the borderline members have confiscated one bale counterfeit clothing, 40 counterfeit cigarettes, dagga, 20 000 dagga plants to the value of R 2 000 000, eight dagga fields were destroyed. 59 traffic fines were also issued against people who violated the Road Traffic Act.
The Provincial Commissioner hailed the women as brave cops and said that this is a true reflection that women can be effective in the fight against crime.
