MBOMBELA – A dentist of Rob Ferreira Hospital, who resided in the staff quarters on hospital grounds, was found dead under odd circumstances on Friday. She fell to her death from the balcony of her flat on the sixth floor, but whether it was suicide or not, is still under investigation.

Dr Phumzile Nkosi (52) had been working at the hospital for six years. Her body was discovered at about 07:00 by a colleague who also resides in the block of flats. The deceased was lying on a wooden deck, close to a concrete flower pot. What puzzled sources close to the investigation, was the fact that a spatula had been lying next to her body.
Her flat was locked and a master key was used to gain entry to it. “There was nothing out of the ordinary inside, really. A small ornament lay broken on the floor, but there were no signs of a struggle. Her cellphone, house keys, passport and a wallet full of cash were left untouched, so I doubt it was a planned break-in or robbery that had gone wrong,” a source commented.
She had a wound to the back of her head, which might have been sustained during the fall. Although it was initially suspected that she might have hit her head on the flower pot, there was no blood on it.
Mr Dumisani Malamule, spokesman for the Department of Health, said the department was shocked by her death. “We convey our deepest condolences to her family and hope an investigation can shed some light on what could have lead to her death.”
Yesterday Capt Dawie Pretorius, spokesman for the local SAPS, said police were investigating an inquest.
