Boy (12) drowns at Elands River Waterfall

The body of a 12-year-old boy was recovered from a rock pool above the Elands River Waterfall by police divers after he drowned there a few hours prior.

WATERVAL BOVEN – Local children’s fun was short-lived when one of their friends disappeared under the water of the natural pool in which they were cooling off from the sweltering heat earlier today.

Police were alerted to the scene after some of the children ran home to fetch adults as they were swimming unsupervised at the time. The 12-year-old boy’s body was recovered by Capt Joey Potgieter of the police’s diving unit.

More information will be published in Friday’s printed edition of the Lowvelder as the identity of the child has not yet been verified.
