Bridge about to get a facelift

Kruger-Hibbens is also part of the Dames in Aksie group. "We have already obtained permission from Thaba Chweu Municipality to paint the bridge. The only standing rule is that it must be painted a neutral colour."

LYDENBURG – Two women are taking it upon themselves to brighten up one of the iconic entrance sights of the town.

Jeanette Kruger-Hibbens and Annemarie van der Heever decided to team up and hopefully give the Lydenburg bridge a much-needed coat of paint.

Van der Heever posted on one of the town’s Facebook pages how she would like to give the bridge a bit of a facelift before she moved to the east coast. “Even though I am moving away, I would like to do something about the bridge. Maybe one day when I drive through the town again, I will be able to look at the bridge and say: ‘See how nice it looks and is being maintained.’ I rescued Sabie’s swimming pool years ago when they wanted to fill it up and build a tennis court there. I got sponsors and maintained the pool all by myself for three years. They are now again organising galas there, after a private school bought it over.”

Kruger-Hibbens is also part of the Dames in Aksie group. “We have already obtained permission from Thaba Chweu Municipality to paint the bridge. The only standing rule is that it must be painted a neutral colour.”

Both women already received a quote from Megapaints. Wimpy van Aardt of Lydenburg Megapaints gave them a discounted price and even offered to supply the labour for the painting of the bridge at no cost.

It will, however, still cost about R42 000 to get the bridge painted and sponsors are needed for this project. Anyone can get involved in the project. Any donations towards the bridge can be paid in directly at Megapaints’ Lydenburg branch. If any businesses would like to get involved, they will have the added benefit that their names will be mounted onto the bridge after completion.
