KOMATIPOORT – A man appeared in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court last week after allegedly raping a nine-year-old child. According to spokesman for the Komatipoort Police Station, Const Natacia Mbuyane, the accused apparently forced himself on the child after her mother reportedly had left her alone at an establishment where they usually watched television.
“On March 20 at about 23:00 on the Schoenspruit Farm, a woman took her two children, an infant and the young girl, to an establishment where they often watched television. The mother allegedly left her daughter there to watch TV with many men around, dancing and drinking beer. The accused reportedly approached the little girl and offered her R100 if she went with him,” Mbuyane explained. She allegedly refused the money. He then forcefully took the child to a nearby field and raped her.
The victim’s mother only found out what had happened when one of their neighbours told her that the victim had disappeared with the accused the previous night.
“The mother reportedly questioned the girl, as she only came back home at around 02:00 that morning. The child allegedly refused to talk until her mother gave her a hiding. The mother then went to the police station to open a case,” Mbuyane said.
The accused appeared in court on Friday.
