Victim’s attacker has yet to be arrested

A resident of Marloth Park was attacked at her house on Saturday night. This is the second attack on a woman outside her home this year.

MARLOTH PARK – A 60-year-old woman was attacked at her house on Saturday night.

According to reports, she was sitting on her veranda when a man emerged from the bush and assaulted her before fleeing on foot.

A local security company was called to the scene and found footprints of the culprit, leading off into the bush. It is currently investigating the incident.

This is the second attack on residents this year, following the assault of the Mattheus couple in March.

Mr Ian and Ms Carol Mattheus were relaxing in their pool at sunset when Carol spotted suspicious movement in the bush. She went to fetch the panic button and had just returned when a man threatened her with a firearm. She managed to press the button and an altercation ensued. Ian tried to intervene and two shots were fired, one grazing his hand.

The man attempted to pull Carol away, but the couple managed to fight him off and he fled. The police were notified of the incident but no arrest was made. Read the full story here.

Residents of Marloth Park are urged to be vigilant when spending time outside at night and to be more safety-conscious. If you spot any suspicious activity or person, report it to your security company, safety-and-security organisation or the Komatipoort Police Station.
