Security officer out on bail after Anderson Street shooting

Themba Nkosi was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed one of eight men who were trying to rob him in the early hours of July 29 at Anderson Street

The security officer from Phoenix Security who was arrested for murder was released on bail.

He appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Police spokesman Lt Col Erhard Stroh said he was released on bail of R2 000. “His next court appearance is October 10,” said Stroh.

He had gone out on Saturday night with his girlfriend when the incident occurred.

According to a source, Nkosi was at Club H2 when an argument started. He had left his gun in the car, which was parked a few metres from the club.

“A fight broke out while he was inside. He then went outside to get his gun and he fired a warning shot before shooting the deceased. The people he was fighting were planning to rob him,” she explained.

The day after the incident occurred a second man, who is said to be friends with the deceased, was found dead in his room. The cause of death is unknown.
