A police officer’s alleged killer arrested in KaNyamazane

Jacky Sibusiso Ntiwane is facing charges of murdering the off-duty police officer at a car wash in KaNyamanzane in January.

Jacky Sibusiso Ntiwane (35) appeared in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court for the murder of an off-duty police officer, Captain Sibusiso Mthombothi (44), on March 22.

According to the provincial Hawks’ spokesperson, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, Ntiwane was arrested by the Nelspruit Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit at his hiding place in KaNyamazane.

Sekgotodi also said the accused was sought for the murder of the late Captain Mthombothi, who was killed during a shoot-out at a KaNyamazane car wash on January 13 at about 21:45.

“The arrest followed after information of his hiding place was received by the leading investigating team of the Hawks, together with the crime intelligence. The team made use of crime intelligence as an important role player to assist in gathering information, which led to the arrest of the suspect. The team, comprising of Nelspruit Crime Intelligence, the Provincial Tracking Team and the Tactical Response Team, risked their lives by approaching the house of the suspect, who was known to be armed, in the early hours of Wednesday March 20 at about 02:00. The suspect was cornered and arrested,” she said.

Sekgotodi also said he appeared in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court on Friday March 22, facing a charge of murder.

The case was postponed to Thursday April 4 for bail applications. The accused was remanded in custody.
