Unlucky incident unveils hidden quad bike in Mbombela, possibly stolen

A dismantled quad bike was discovered when taxi trailer lost its load

The police discovered a dismantled quad bike, believed to be stolen and destined for Mozambique, when a trailer lost its load in Mbombela this morning.

The incident happened around mid-morning on the corner of the Old Pretoria Road and Plankie Street. It is understood a minibus taxi, registered in Randburg, Gauteng, was hauling a heavily loaded trailer when the trailer tipped over and lost its load. The incident revealed parts of a dismantled Bombardier quad bike hidden underneath regular travel luggage, household items and bakkie wheels.

AG Solutions’ operations manager, Callen Herbst, said it was common practice for stolen motorbikes to be taken apart, smuggled across the border and then reassembled on the other side. He said the parts were impounded by the Nelspruit SAPS, and further investigations will be done to try and locate the quad bike’s registered owner.
