Armed men rob Mbombela filling station, flee on foot

Private security officers were first on the scene.

Two armed men robbed the VKB filling station along the N4 opposite i’langa Mall in Mbombela at around 18:40 this evening, Wednesday, July 9.

According to reliable information received by Lowvelder, the suspects threatened staff and took an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene on foot.

Officers from a private security company were first to respond, with police arriving a few minutes later.
No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

“We can confirm that two men robbed the filling station and walked away with cash,” said ACS Spartan Security director John Meintjies.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said he had sent an enquiry to his colleagues at the Nelspruit Police Station, but had not received a response at the time of publication.

No arrests have been reported.
