Mbombela: SAPS and private security collaborate to rescue kidnapped mother and child

Swift response and collaboration led to the arrest of a kidnapping suspect.

A mother and her child were safely rescued shortly after they were allegedly kidnapped in Mbombela today, Thursday July 17.

Details remain unclear at this stage.

When contacted for information, provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said she had not yet been informed of the incident.

According to information at Lowvelder’s disposal, members of the SAPS requested backup from private security enforcement in response to an active kidnapping case.

SAPS officers and security personnel gathered at the West End Sasol garage before proceeding to the scene.

“On arrival at the location, the suspect and victims were no longer on the scene. Thanks to quick-thinking witnesses, detailed information was relayed within minutes,” reads a post on Divergent Ops Security’s Facebook page.

Following coordinated efforts using various tactical procedures and platforms, the vehicle used in the incident was tracked to KaBokweni and a suspect was arrested at the entrance of Themba Hospital.

“Cases of theft, assault and kidnapping were opened,” the post continued.

Information about the victims and the suspect was not available at the time of publication.
