Two Belgian tourists killed in head-on crash in Mpumalanga
The authorities are investigating allegations that the tourists were driving in the wrong lane.
Two Belgian tourists died in a head-on collision on the R37 between Sabie and Mbombela today, September 12.
The crash, which involved two SUVs, occurred near the Sudwala turn-off at around 15:00 and left two occupants of the other vehicle with serious injuries.

It is alleged that the tourists had been driving in the right lane at the time of the collision. In South Africa, vehicles drive on the left, whereas in Belgium they drive on the right.

“We can confirm that the two tourists from Belgium, who were allegedly driving in the wrong lane, have died. However, an investigation is under way to establish the facts around this allegation,” said Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison.
He added that the two other victims were rushed to Kiaat Private Hospital in a serious condition.
Mmusi also urged motorists to observe the rules of the road for everyone’s safety.
