Child drowns in Kwena Dam near Lydenburg
The police diving unit is responding to recover the body.
A 10-year-old child drowned in the Kwena Dam situated along the Badfontein road outside Lydenburg.
The tragic incident happened on Sunday, October 26 just after 16:00. Circumstances around the drowning have not been established and the name of the child has not been released.
Steelburger/Lydenburg News spoke to Captains Pottie and Joey Potgieter of the Ehlanzeni Police Diving Unit who were en route to the scene.
Pottie confirmed the drowning but could not provide more information.

Sergeant Cave Dilebo, spokesperson of the SAPS in Lydenburg, said that more information regarding the incident will be provided as soon as an investigation has been conducted.
According to information received, the body has not been retrieved yet. More information regarding the incident will follow.
Several drownings in this dam have been reported in previous years.
The last incident occurred in 2020 when a 39-year-old Malalane man drowned in the same dam.
