The lights are on at MPower MPowerFM

NELSPRUIT – A month after the rhythm of Mpumalanga was last heard on the airwaves, MPowerFM staff members are still at work. The station was unable to meet the obligations set by national signal distributor, Sentech, which subsequenlty pulled the switch on this regional station on July 1.
Acting managing director, Mr Mark Schormann, told Lowvelder on Thursday morning that no letters of notice had been issued to any of the staff members, however, management did communicate the exact situation in terms of the future of the station at a meeting to the 34 employees, earlier in the week.
The situation with Sentech has not been resolved and will probably remain as is, Schormann said. He added that the focus of the board of directors at this point in time was on the overcapitalisation of the station through investment from outside parties.
“We are committed to finding a sustainable solution for MPowerFM to ensure the station remains part of the community,” according to Ms Linda Grimbeeck, a shareholder representative.
